EL CENTRO — A pedestrian was killed and the driver that killed him was arrested for felony hit-and-run driving on Thursday, May 14, according to the El Centro Police Department.
About 9:20 p.m., officers from the El Centro Police Department responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Imperial Avenue and Pico Avenue.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male pedestrian suffering from critical injuries. Preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene immediately following the collision. Emergency medical personnel responded and provided lifesaving measures; however, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Through witness statements and additional investigative leads, officers identified and located the suspect vehicle and driver. Following the preliminary investigation, the driver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death.
An El Centro Police Department traffic collision investigator responded to the scene and was actively assisting with the ongoing investigation.
