Black History Month Celebration Concert Set

EL CENTRO — A Black History Month celebration concert will be held on Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. at Christ Community Church,  590 W. Orange Ave., El Centro.

The free concert will be featuring the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir from San Diego. Their music, which is inspirational and uplifting, celebrates the history of the Negro Spiritual repertoire.

The choir has performed both nationally and internationally, including touring the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Denmark and the Netherlands. It has also performed at New York Carnegie Hall.

The choir includes Imperial valley native Judith Malone referred to as gospel singer “Mahalia Jackson.”

The celebration is sponsored by Johnson Chapel Women’s Missionary Society and the Martin Luther King Commemorative Committee. Please bring and donate one or more nonperishable items (food, toiletries or clothing) to be distributed to the needy in our community.
